Katie Roberts

Paintings and Drawings.

I am a local artist with a deep connection with this land and its history, which I dedicate my art to. I grew up in Australia and the UK and my parents were deeply involved in the Landrights movement, this knowledge of our history informs my perspective and artwork. I studied art for ten years, at TAFE and RMIT majoring in Drawing. After finishing my honours year I started Synergy Gallery in 2001, a community contemporary art space in High St Northcote. After my Masters in 2006 I started a long-term project to re-map the Yarra River or Birrarung, the history and environment of Melbourne/Naarm. This ongoing endeavour attempts to redocument this land, including its hidden histories and layers.

I have held 20 solo shows and participated in over 30 group exhibitions, as well as a number of artist residencies in parks in Melbourne, including Darebin Parklands. You can find me making artwork outdoors on the earth and by her waterways, as well as from my home studio in Fairfield.
