Sharon West is a mixed media artist using themes involving playful and absurdist re-workings of Australian history. Recent works have included humorous appropriations of the Heidelberg School. West is also concerned with settler and Indigenous folklore including mythical creatures such as bunyips and kangaroosters. West’s interest in Indigenous themes were influenced by her work as a teacher at the Indigenous Arts Unit of RMIT University from 1999-2013. Currrently she teaches in the Univerity School of Art Diploma of Visual Arts program.
West has exhibited in various solo and group shows both locally and internationally. She has been a finalist in numerous art prizes and her work is represented in private and public collections.
